Why this site exists
Search “is my e-scooter legal” and almost every result is a shop selling scooters. That’s the gap EnviroRiders fills: plain-English guides to the law on electric bikes and scooters, built from government sources, by people who don’t sell you anything.
The problem we kept running into
Electric bikes and scooters are everywhere now, and the law around them is a mess — different in every country, sometimes every city or state, and changing fast. Yet when you go looking for a straight answer, the top of the search results is dominated by retailers. They’ll happily explain the rules while selling you the very machine that might be illegal where you live. That’s a conflict of interest baked into nearly every source out there.
So we did the boring thing nobody else was doing: we read the actual legislation, and wrote it down clearly.
How we work
- Primary sources only. Every figure on every page traces back to a government publication — a transport ministry, a road-safety authority, an official gazette. We link to them so you can check us.
- Dated, so you can judge freshness. Every guide shows when it was last verified. If a page is getting old, you can see that it’s getting old. Most sites hide this.
- We say when we’re not sure. Where a rule is proposed but not yet law, we say so. Where a figure comes from a motoring body rather than the government itself, we name it.
- We don’t sell vehicles. No shop, no affiliate links to bikes or scooters, no stake in what you decide to buy. It’s the whole reason you can trust the answer.
What this site is — and isn’t
It is a plain-English summary of published government guidance, kept as current as we can manage, covering electric bikes, scooters, and related vehicles across a growing list of countries and states.
It isn’t legal advice. We can’t tell you whether your specific vehicle is legal in your specific street — only the official source can do that, which is why we always point you to it. Rules change, enforcement varies locally, and the primary source is always the authority.

Laws in this area move constantly, and readers who actually ride in these places often spot a change before we do. If you find something out of date or wrong, please tell us — accuracy is the entire point of the site. There’s a contact page for exactly that.
